Menthol Crystals are used in many different cosmetic applications and products such as toothpaste, mouthwash, hair and skin creams, soaps, throat lozenges, muscle rubs, cooling agents and more. They are also often used in spa treatments, showers, baths, steam rooms and dry saunas.
Menthol crystals are solid at room temperature and have a melting point of between 95°F and 111°F. Store in a cool area, away from windows, as the crystals easily melt in warm conditions. The crystals are soluble in alcohol and warm oils including essential oils. They are not readily soluble in water or glycerin, though warm water may melt them.
Precautions: Menthol crystals should never be used as a single ingredient product or applied directly to the skin without proper dilution. May cause irritation to skin or mucous membranes. Proper dilution within a finished product of no more than 2% as a food additive or 5% for topical application. In ointments and solutions, menthol crystals are typically added in strengths ranging from 0.5 to 5% (always start with less). Not to be used in or near the eyes. - For external use ONLY - Keep away from children and avoid during pregnancy.
